The pigeon shed

Welcome to the Pigeon Shed!

Historically the building that has now become known as 'The Pigeon Shed' first began life as toilets for a primary school before then becoming the meeting place for a local homing pigeon society. In its latest transformation it has now take on a dual function as both a quiet space and a prayer room. The Pigeon Shed is a joint venture between LCH & The Gathering Church and at its heart it is about having a dedicated space in the community where anyone can come to find rest and renewal.

Prayer has always been important to us at The Gathering Church (TG) and over the years we have hosted both regular times of prayer as well as a number of weekends of continuous 24-7 prayer. Those that participated in these times, especially the 24-7 weekends, spoke about how impactful they had been and so a dream for some kind of permanent prayer space in the heart of the community began to develop.

Over the years we entertained different and creative ways of trying to have some kind of ‘prayer room’ but nothing seemed feasible until we became one of the founding partners of LCH and we wondered if there might be space here at The Hub. The possibility of using what is affectionately known as ‘The Pigeon Shed’ arose and after some discussions, prayers, and lots of coffee, the dream for a dedicated space for prayer has finally become a reality! We want prayer to be absolutely central to all that we are and all that we do and this is why we have invested our time, energy, and finances into this space. Our strapline here at TG is that we are here for the good of our neighbours, the flourishing of our community, and the glory of God - and this is not truly possible without prayer.

Therefore anyone is welcome to come and pray in this space during Cafe open hours or to come an join us during any of our regular morning prayer times on Monday to Friday from 8:15-8:45. Over time we would love to work with other local churches to develop more rhythms of prayer, including whole weeks and weekends of 24-7 Prayer here in Leatherhead. If this is something that you might be interested in then please do get in touch at hello@thegatheringnl.com It is our hope and prayer that this space will be a place of encounter, a place of communion, a place where faith is restored, hope is renewed, and love is rekindled. So we speak blessing to you and all who enter it. And so to this end we have a number of resources available to help encourage and support you in your journey of prayer.
